Founded in 1969 as a joint venture between the Government of Qatar and a number of foreign shareholders, QAFCO has evolved steadily over the past five decades as a world-class fertilizer producer. The country’s first large-scale venture in the petrochemical sector, QAFCO was established to diversify the economy and utilize the nation’s enormous gas reserve. QAFCO is owned 100% by Industries Qatar (IQ).
With six world-class plants producing a sizable annual capacity of 3.8 million MT of ammonia and 5.6 million MT of urea, QAFCO stands proudly as the world’s largest single-site exporter of urea, with up to a 14% share of the world supply. QAFCO is strongly committed to operating its assets safely, efficiently, and environmentally responsible to produce high-quality Ammonia and Urea.

Products
- Ammonia
Produced using natural gas, steam, and air. Stored as a liquid at -33°C. Specs: 99.5% min purity, 81.9% min nitrogen, 0.5% max moisture, 10 PPM max oil content, 0.01% max impurities. - Melamine (Qatar Melamine Company)
Uses Eurotecnica’s High Pressure Melamine Technology. Specs: 99.8% max melamine content, 0.1% max moisture, 20 APHA max color, 0.01% max ash, pH 7.5-8.5, 1 PPM max iron. - Prilled Urea
Solid fertilizer derived from ammonia and CO2. Specs: 46% min nitrogen, 1% max biuret, 0.5% max moisture, 90% min 1-2.8 mm particle size. - Granular Urea
Similar to prilled but with larger particles. Specs: 46% min nitrogen, 1% max biuret, 0.5% max moisture, 90% min 2-4mm particle size. - Urea Formaldehyde Concentrate (UFC-85)
Viscous liquid used as an anticaking agent in urea products. Specs: 60 + 0.5 % formaldehyde, 25 + 0.5 % urea, balance water, 0.21% max methanol, pH 7-8.
