Jordan Phosphate Mines Co., established in 1949, is a public shareholding limited company in Jordan. The company is a leading entity in mining and processing phosphate ore, holding a pivotal role in the Jordanian economic landscape and in international markets. It is renowned for being the second-largest phosphate exporter and the sixth-largest producer globally, with a substantial annual production capacity exceeding 11 million tons.
The company’s operations are spread across various locations in Jordan, including its headquarters in Amman and four major mines in Russaifa, Al-Hassa, Wadi Al-Abiad, and Eshidiya. It also operates a significant industrial complex in Aqaba that is aimed at enhancing phosphate’s value through further processing. This complex is among the largest of its kind in the Middle East.
The company operates the Phosphate Port in Aqaba to facilitate its export operations, with ongoing expansions to boost capacity and address environmental concerns. Products
- Phosphate: High-quality, environmentally friendly phosphate with a heavy metals ratio below international standards. Extracted from Al-Hassa, Wadi Al-Abiad, and Eshidiya mines. Used directly or for producing various types of fertilizers.
- Diammonium Phosphate (DAP): Contains 18% nitrogen and 46% phosphor pentoxide. Produced at a capacity of 1,500 tons/day per unit, stored in facilities with a 60,000-ton capacity. Exported to countries such as India, Ethiopia, Turkey, and Iraq. Suitable for all crops and applicable in both rain-fed and irrigated lands.
- Phosphoric Acid: Metallic acid used primarily in the fertilizer industry. Daily production ranges from 900 to 1,310 tons of diluted phosphoric acid (28% P2O4). Used as an intermediate product in industries including animal feed, detergents, and some food industries.
- Sulfuric Acid: Produced with a daily capacity of 2,500 tons per unit at 98.5% concentration. Uses include treatment of metallic ores, fertilizer production, oil refining, and wastewater treatment. Integral in producing phosphoric acid and various other industrial applications.
- Aluminum Fluoride: Used in the production of aluminum, lowering the melting point during the manufacturing process. Processed from imported aluminum hydroxide and Fluosilicic acid, then packaged as per demand.
