Port of Açu and Yamna collaborate to develop green ammonia plant in Brazil
Port of Açu and Yamna have entered into a land reservation agreement to establish a green ammonia production facility in the Port of Açu industrial complex, located in the northeast of Rio de Janeiro State. Yamna plans for the new plant to have a production capacity of up to one million tons per year (1MTPA). It expects to reach the final investment decision by 2027 and start producing its first green molecules in 2030.
The partnership allocates two million square meters specifically for green hydrogen projects at Port of Açu. The port is a key component of Brazil’s major oil and gas export facilities, handling 40% of the nation’s oil exports. The planned green ammonia plant marks Yamna’s debut project in Brazil. It strategically aligns with the company’s global ambitions to establish large-scale green ammonia production sites in prime locations. Brazil’s robust renewable energy capabilities and strategic positioning for exports present an opportune landscape for scaling up green ammonia production to meet the increasing global demand.
Port of Açu, recognized as a leading industrial port and energy hub, offers the ideal infrastructure and logistics necessary for this ambitious project. This collaboration will significantly enhance Yamna’s presence in the global green ammonia market and bolster the port’s role in the energy transition.
