Lamb Weston commits to landmark green fertilizer contract with Atlas Agro
Lamb Weston Holdings, a prominent U.S. potato supplier, has formed a strategic partnership with Atlas Agro to secure a supply of locally produced, environmentally friendly fertilizers. This alliance is a key component of Lamb Weston’s strategy to enhance sustainable farming and reduce its environmental footprint, with projections indicating a potential 99% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional fertilizer methods.
Under the terms of the agreement, Atlas Agro’s upcoming Pacific Green Fertilizer (PGF) facility in Richland, WA, set to commence operations in 2028, will provide these green fertilizers directly to Lamb Weston’s farming operations. This initiative is part of Lamb Weston’s broader goal to achieve net-zero emissions from its company-owned farms by 2030.
The collaboration marks Lamb Weston’s commitment to environmental sustainability and positions the company as a leader in adopting green practices within the agricultural sector. The company anticipates that this shift will significantly lower the carbon footprint associated with the fertilizers used in its potato cultivation.
Petter Ostbo, CEO of Atlas Agro, highlighted the broader implications of the agreement. “Lamb Weston’s decision to use our green fertilizer solutions is a significant step towards decarbonizing the food and agricultural sectors,” he noted. “This approach not only reduces emissions but also sets new sustainability benchmarks for the industry. Our focus on local, fossil-free fertilizer production is crucial for reducing dependency on imported fertilizers, boosting local employment, and stabilizing local supply chains.”
