The Andersons acquires Skyland Grain to boost market access in Central U.S.
The Andersons, Inc. has expanded its agricultural portfolio by acquiring a majority stake in Skyland Grain, LLC, a strategic step aimed at enhancing its grain and fertilizer operations in the central U.S. This acquisition, covering core agricultural states like Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas, strengthens The Andersons’ position in regions with robust growth in feed demand, grain storage, and agronomy services.
In line with its commitment to regional expansion, The Andersons seeks to integrate Skyland’s established network of 7,000 cooperative members and more than 50 grain storage and agronomy service locations. The acquisition enhances The Andersons’ capabilities in grain handling, precision agronomy, and fuel distribution, helping to meet the rising demands of agricultural producers. The company also aims to double the footprint of its retail farm center business, while the combined entity’s increased buying power is expected to improve competitiveness across North America’s agricultural supply chain.
Pete Goetzmann, CEO of Skyland, expressed optimism about the merger, noting that the addition of The Andersons’ asset portfolio would provide their producers greater access to premium markets and resources. Skyland Grain brings extensive value with its locally tailored expertise, allowing for streamlined access to wider markets.
For The Andersons, an Ohio-based agribusiness leader recognized by Forbes and Newsweek as one of America’s most successful and responsible small companies, the acquisition represents another step in its strategy of sustainable growth and service diversification. The company is a prominent name in commodity merchandising, renewables, and nutrient solutions, and has earned a reputation for supporting communities and enhancing its service to farmers.
Bill Krueger, President and CEO of The Andersons, highlighted that Skyland’s strong relationships with local farmers, along with its core assets in agronomy, cotton, and fuel services, complement The Andersons’ national grain merchandising infrastructure. By leveraging these assets, the company anticipates expanding its customer reach and delivering enhanced market access to regional producers. This acquisition also underlines The Andersons’ commitment to building an efficient, customer-centric network that benefits producers across North America.
