Young Vietnamese entrepreneur revolutionizes farming with circular agriculture model
Ngo Dinh Tuan, a young farmer from Xuan Giang Commune in Thanh Hoa Province, is redefining success in agriculture with his innovative approach to circular farming. This sustainable model not only secures over 300 million Vietnamese Dong ($11,800) annually for his farm but also sets a new standard for agricultural practices in the region.
Originally enrolled at Hanoi University of Industry, Tuan chose to leave his electronics and telecommunications studies behind to engage in farming—a decision initially met with skepticism by his family. Yet, his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to learning effective farming models during university laid the foundation for his future successes.
Tuan’s circular farm spans roughly 3 hectares, where he initially faced challenges with traditional fruit crops due to volatile market prices and limited reach. However, a strategic pivot to intercropping and diversifying crops, alongside investing in wild boar farming, has not only stabilized his income but enhanced the sustainability of his operations.
The farm utilizes a closed-loop system where agricultural by-products are recycled, minimizing waste and reducing input costs. For instance, damaged fruits serve as feed for his livestock, while organic waste from the animals enriches the soil, improving crop yields.
Tuan’s decision to focus on wild boars has proven astute, given their market demand and ease of rearing compared to other livestock. His farm annually markets about 1,000 piglets and boars, supported by an infrastructure that includes 50 breeding sows and collaboration with satellite farms to enhance local livestock quality.
Moreover, Tuan has embraced social media to broaden his market, using platforms like TikTok and Facebook to sell his products. This approach not only ensures he finds buyers each season but also helps him command higher prices due to the superior quality of his offerings.
In a bid to give back to the community, Tuan has also launched a YouTube channel to share his knowledge on high-yield fruit cultivation and sustainable livestock-rearing practices. This initiative has turned him into a local agricultural influencer, inspiring others to adopt more sustainable and profitable farming methods.
Ngo Dinh Tuan’s success story is not just about personal gain but about transforming agricultural practices through innovation, community involvement, and a relentless pursuit of sustainability. His journey from a university dropout to a leader in circular agriculture is a testament to the potential of combining traditional knowledge with modern techniques to revolutionize an industry.
