Syngenta and Ginkgo Bioworks will work together to introduce new biological solutions
Syngenta Crop Protection and Ginkgo Bioworks have entered into a partnership to fast-track the development of innovative biological solutions for agriculture. This collaboration builds on their previous joint efforts in next-generation seed technology, which are now focusing on optimizing the production process for a key secondary metabolite identified by Syngenta.
This latest initiative involves Ginkgo Bioworks deploying its advanced Ag Biologicals capabilities to develop and optimize a microbial strain. The goal is to meet production targets for this metabolite, which Syngenta believes could revolutionize biological solutions in agriculture. By enhancing the efficiency and scalability of production, Syngenta anticipates a quicker rollout of this new product to the market.
Camilla Corsi, Global Head of Research at Syngenta Crop Protection, emphasized the significance of biologicals in promoting sustainable agriculture. “Biologicals are crucial for efficient and sustainable agricultural solutions worldwide,” Corsi stated. “Our partnership with Ginkgo is vital in meeting our productivity targets, thereby expediting our time to market.”
Magalie Guilhabert, Head of Ag Biologicals at Ginkgo Bioworks, also highlighted the growth of their collaboration. “Expanding our partnership with Syngenta allows us to leverage our proven capabilities in strain engineering and machine learning to tackle some of the toughest challenges in agriculture,” said Guilhabert.
Ginkgo Bioworks is recognized as a leader in cell programming that offers comprehensive services across various sectors, including agriculture.
