Cinis Fertilizer launches new Swedish eco-friendly production facility
On June 4, 2024, Cinis Fertilizer inaugurated its first production facility in Örnsköldsvik, marking a significant advancement in the fertilizer industry with its novel fossil-free production approach. This facility is notably the first globally to produce potassium sulfate with a minimal carbon footprint, utilizing industrial waste products in a circular business model.
The journey began in mid-February 2023, when construction commenced in Köpmanholmen, near Örnsköldsvik. Production launched in May 2024, and the official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place today, celebrated by a congregation of government representatives, business partners, and local officials.
Dan Ericsson, State Secretary to the Minister for Rural Affairs, emphasized the strategic importance of the facility: “This plant not only bolsters our national production capabilities but also positions us for potential exports, significantly contributing to both local and European food supply chains while addressing climate concerns.”
Örnsköldsvik’s Mayor, Anna-Britta Åkerlind, and Cinis Fertilizer’s CEO Jakob Liedberg, alongside Erik van den Bergh, Managing Director of Van Iperen International, presided over the inauguration. Liedberg expressed his gratitude and pride, stating, “Today marks a crucial milestone in our journey towards sustainable agriculture.”
