Técnicas Reunidas to build ammonia and urea complex in Kazakhstan
The office of the Kazakh prime minister announced on Thursday that the Spanish engineering and construction company Técnicas Reunidas will build an ammonia and urea complex in the western city of Aktau.
The prime minister’s press service said that Alikhan Smailov had earlier met with the Madrid-based firm’s executive chairman, Juan Liado, to discuss the status of investment projects in both the chemical and oil and gas industries.
Mr. Smailov was quoted as saying that ‘We welcome the cooperation of Tecnicas Reunidas with KazAzot and KazMunayGas in the development of project documentation for a new ammonia and urea complex in Aktau, as well as polyethylene production in the Atyrau region.’
He noted that Kazakhstan has not previously produced urea, adding that, alongside the planned polyethylene plant, the facility will help the Central Asian state to further diversify its economy.
