Mari Petroleum enhances gas supply for fertilizer industry in Pakistan
Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL), a key player in Pakistan’s energy sector, has made a significant stride in bolstering gas supply for the fertilizer and power industries. On December 11, the company announced a successful discovery at the Mari Gas Field in Daharki, Sindh Province, marking a pivotal moment for the fertilizer plants in Pakistan.
MPCL, recognized as the principal supplier of feedstock and fuel gas to the nation’s fertilizer industry, informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) about its latest achievement. The newly drilled and tested well, Mari-124H, is situated in the Habib Rahi Limestone (HRL) Reservoir of the Mari Gas Field. This development is part of the broader Mari Field Revitalization Project, which focuses on maintaining gas production levels, managing delivery pressures efficiently, and optimizing reserve recovery to counteract output depletion.
The well, drilled to a measured depth of 1,740 meters, includes a horizontal section of approximately 750 meters. Its testing phase yielded promising results, producing around 17 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas at a flowing wellhead pressure of 470 pounds per square inch gauge (PSIG). Following the completion of drilling operations, the well is set to be brought into regular production immediately.
MPCL, holding a 100% working interest as the Operator of the Mari Gas Field, is also exploring additional opportunities for drilling horizontal wells in the future.
This development follows MPCL’s December agreement with major industry players like Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited (FFC), Engro Fertilizers Limited (EFL), and Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited (FFCL). This Framework Agreement was established for installing Pressure Enhancement Facilities (PEF) at the Mari Gas Field. This project is integral to maintaining consistent gas production levels at the necessary pressures, ensuring a steady supply to fertilizer manufacturing units across Pakistan.
