CoteX Technologies and Nutrien to collaborate on fertilizer-coating technology
CoteX Technologies announced on Tuesday that it will work with Nutrien to explore the joint commercialization of its controlled-release coating technology for nitrogen fertilizer.
The Canadian ag-tech startup said that in partnership with the world’s leading provider of crop inputs and services it will seek to produce an affordable, environmentally friendly product for large acreage crops in the North American market.
CoteX said that its biodegradable coating technology allows fertilizer to be slowly released into the soil over time, minimizing runoff into waterways and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The company also added that its coating is cheaper and more versatile than liquid coatings.
Nutrien’s president of nitrogen and phosphates, Trevor Williams, welcomed the companies’ agreement, saying: ‘We are excited to begin this journey with CoteX Technologies. This innovation has the potential to substantially increase efficiency in nitrogen application, which will help farmers increase yield potential in a sustainable way.’
