Sunflower harvest will decrease in Ukraine

This year, the sunflower harvest in Ukraine may fall to 7.9-8.8 million tons against 14.9 million tons in 2021, said Nikolay Pugachev, Deputy Director of the Institute of Agrarian Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
“In 2021, Ukrainian farmers sow 6.5 million hectares with sunflower, while this year only 72% of last year’s area was sown which is 4.6 million hectares. This indicator corresponds to the level of 2010-2011,” said Nikolay Pugachev.
According to his statement, the future sunflower harvest will be enough to meet the needs of Ukraine: earlier it produced about 6 million tons of sunflower oil per year, of which about 85% was exported.
