Fertiglobe (a joint asset of OCI and Abu Dhabi National Oil) has signed an agreement on the establishment of a hydrogen electrolysis plant to obtain green ammonia. It will be located in Ain Sokhna (Egypt).
As follows from the terms of the agreement, the final decision on the start of the project will be made in 2022 with the launch of the enterprise in 2024. Fertiglobe expects to receive up to 90 thousand tons of green ammonia.
The partners plan to generate electricity using solar and wind power. The electrolysis plant project will be implemented in close cooperation with international financial institutions.
The current demand for low-carbon ammonia is estimated at 8 million tons and could grow up to 25 million tons by 2030.
