Nutrien and Exmar will create an ammonia-fueled vessel
Canadian fertilizer producer Nutrien and tech company Exmar signed an agreement to jointly develop and build an ammonia-fueled marine vessel.
Nutrien has been involved in low-carbon ammonia projects for over a decade and has its production facilities in Canada and the United States with a total capacity of a million tons. The use of ammonia will allow reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40-70%, depending on the production technology.
The ship using low-carbon ammonia as fuel is planned to be floated out in 2025. It will be able to transport ammonia to consumers.
