Bayer begins sales of new tomato varieties
German chemical giant Bayer introduced tomatoes resistant to Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV).
ToBRFV was discovered in 2014 and quickly spread to different regions of the world. The virus is a major problem for agriculture as it can easily pass through a variety of vectors, including tools and equipment, workers’ hands, plants, water, or soil. There is no effective protection against it.
Breeding tomatoes resistant to ToBRFV is an integral part of Bayer’s long-term development strategy.
